REFLECTIONS

My EDGE project has been a much longer journey that I ever planned. My initial plan was to go on a humanitarian trip for my EDGE project during the Christmas break of 2017. That unfortunately fell through. This wasn't too big of a concern at the time as I still had two and a half years left to complete a new project and planned on going on the same trip the following year.

The trip fell through again. Luckily, I found a new project, to assist in organizing an annual talent show for special needs individuals in St. George and surrounds towns. This was an event I actually participated in when I was a teenager and was quite excited about it being my project. However, they decided not to do a talent show this year, opted for an activity that wasn't compatible with an EDGE project.

With this third project falling through, and now having much less time to find and complete a project I decided I needed a project that I had control over. This led me to my project of organizing and leading a trip for my friend group.

When I began the process of an EDGE project, I thought it was the project itself that I would learn the most from. However, reflecting now, I feel that it's been the process of actually getting a project to work that's taught me the most. Having things fall through on me like they did showed me the need for perseverance. My project becoming much longer and less simple than I had hoped helped me learn the need at times to work though difficulties that arise.

I also feel that I grew in confidence in myself in organizing and leading an event or trip like I did. In the end, I feel that the difficulties I encountered taught me more than I ever thought my EDGE project would teach me.
